In a Nutshell
A classic. Powerful, briny, smoky style, sweet barley & citrus leading to a dry peaty finish.
Bright gold. Powerful peat-smoke with just a hint of sea-water saltiness, fresh oysters, and a citrus sweetness. Full bodied, rich dried-fruit, with smoke and strong barley-malt flavours. Huge, long, warming. Peppery on the finish well balanced by sweetness.
There are 3 wash and 4 spirits stills, the spirts stills are tall with a unique upward angle lyne arm. A slow simmering distillation reduces reflux and increases the desired chemical reaction with copper, helps the spirit mature. The new spirit (about 68% abv) is transferred to used 200 litre American oak barrels from the Maker's Mark Bourbon distillery in Kentucky, it's then matured the famous No 1 Warehouse which is closest to the sea shore.
The only distillery on the Isle of Skye, Talisker (from Thalas Gair, sloping rock in Norse) takes its name from the mountain above the village of Talisker.
