A rich, rounded blend of triple-distilled malt & grain whiskies, including Oloroso-aged single malt.
Deep amber colour. Rich Sherry nose, with strong barley notes, lighter citrus and dried fruit aromas appear too. Full and fruity, smooth almost creamy vanilla with lots of malt and sherry wood notes, and drier on the finish.
A blend of triple distilled pot still whiskey made from unpeated and malted barley distilled in small long necked copper pot stills, together these produce a lighter smoother spirit than double distilled Scotch whiskies. Ageing takes place in carefully selected oak barrels for at least three years, sometimes even 15 years or more - these can be used sherry, port, madeira, bourbon even rum casks, all contribute their flavours. The master blenders select from this broad palette using combining malt and grain whiskies according to the recipe. Black Bush contains a high proportion of triple-distilled single malt, aged in Oloroso sherry casks for around 8-10 years before marriage with the lighter grain whisky.
The Old Bushmills Distillery Company
Bushmill’s is one of the oldest distillery companies in the world, certainly Ireland’s oldest working distillery. Established by a Royal License to distill awarded on 20th April 1608 by James I to Governor of Antrim Sir Thomas Phillips.
