In a Nutshell
A blend of 8 year aged rums carefully blended to resemble the original Fernandes 1919 rum.
A rich, golden-amber colour with a complex nose with aromas of molasses, caramel, toast and and vanilla. Very smooth, with mellow flovours of vanilla and caramel, perhaps a touch of banana too.
A blend of 8 year old rums distilled from molasses at the Angostura Distillery in Trinidad. Carefully blended to to resemble the original Fernandes 1919 rum created by the master blender of Fernandes Distillers, J.B. Fernandes, who bought some charred casks after a fire destroyed the Government Rum Bond in 1932. He discovered the rum was beautifully mature having been filled in the year 1919. Joseph Bento “JB” Fernandes, the grandson of Madeiran Portuguese emigrants, was born in Trinidad in 1903. An astute businessman, he revolutionized rum production in the island nation, at one point owning the largest distillery in the region and the Forres Park Sugar Estate, producing profitable brands like Fernandes Black Label, Vat 19 and Ferdi’s. Fernandes Distilleries were acquired by the Trinidad Distillers Ltd. company in 1973, part of the Angostura company.
One of the Caribbean’s leading rum producers with a great collection of rum brands, Angostura is also the world’s market leader with their iconic Angostura aromatic bitters, the recipe for which is unchanged since it was first introduced.
