The Balvenie distillery was built by William Grant family in 1892 at Dufftown on Speyside. Like neighbours Glenfiddich and Kininvie, the Balvenie is still owned by the Grant family and shares the same Robbie Dhu water source as Glenfiddich.
Balvenie is one of the few distilleries that grows and malts its own barley on a traditional malting floor. The old ways are also valued in the production and maturation processes – a resident coppersmith maintains the stills, and a team of coopers ensures each of the barrels is in perfect condition to receive the spirit. Malt Master David Stewart monitors the maturation of each barrel and blends the whiskies for the Balvenie range in the same careful way he has for over 50 years.
